| Merry Christmas, Wow is it really that time already? What a crazy, but wonderful Christmas week this will be! Christmas is alway one of my most favorite times of the year, but this year I finish off the Christmas week with a wedding to marry my beautiful bride Annie and then its off on the honeymoon to kick off 2008! God is good! I am truly blessed! Thank you to all who have prayerfully and generously supported me through another great year with Missionary Athletes International. Click here to view the 2007 MAI Ministry Update which I put together for our banquet. It's a great ministry review of the year. GIVE THE TEACHER AN APPLE! It's Christmas Break for my teaching at Grace Academy, but it continues to go well, and I've enjoyed getting to know each of the kids in my class. |
| Sports Ministry, an effective tool in Nigeria and Brazil! The Lord was faithful in bringing our tour members back safely from Brazil and Nigeria. They have shared so many amazing stories of how the Lord worked through them and the sport of soccer to share the gospel. In Brazil a few of our women's team members worked closely with top level women's teams in Brazil, introducing players and coaches to sports ministry. One Coach named Sessa, was overjoyed to learn the concept of Sports Ministry. She was so excited to see how she could worship the Lord through the soccer skills He had given her, and in all she does. She is now leading the team in discipleship and encouraging them to share their faith through the sport they love! In Nigeria, Eagles pro team player, Dustin Swinehart was told this concerning ministry to the muslim people: "If you hold up a Bible the people will run from you, but if you hold up a soccer ball the people will run to you." They discovered just how effective sports ministry can be, especially in northern Nigeria where countless numbers of Missionaries have been forced out and unsuccessful in a Muslim dominated region. A soccer ball attracts the people despite the religious differences, and relationships are developed; doors to minister are opened. The Eagles players were also amazed by the few native Christians in the area who put their lives on the line for their faith and even just by being associated with the Christians from america. Tour member Aaron Deloach commented that the stories of the Bible seem to come alive in Africa, especially as a group of the players visited a leper colony; outcasts forced out of the cities because of their illness. The players had the opportunity to show Christ's love to these people even as simply as visiting them, providing a caring touch, and acknowledging them. |
